Students Succeed, Move On

June is traditionally the time when students matriculate from one class to move onto another. The month saw two groups of young people from the Livonia Public Schools Western Wayne Skill Center graduated from their time at Marywood, where they worked hard over the school year, learning about and assisting with jobs in our facility.

On June 12 and June 14, Administrators and members of our Staff met with the work program students and their teachers to thank them and commemorate their enthusiastic efforts. Each student received a certificate of achievement and gifts from coworkers and supervisors.

Tedra Kumru, Marywood Director of Human Resources, expressed our community’s feelings about the students’ contributions: “It has been a true honor for Marywood Nursing Care Center, as a Felician Sponsored Ministry, to collaborate with the Livonia Public Schools Western Wayne Skill Center during the 2017-2018 school year. Fifteen students from the Supported Transition Program (STP) volunteered throughout Marywood as they focused on learning and practicing employability skills for their future. Dedication and contagious smiles were demonstrated by the morning and afternoon students, as they assisted in the Activities, Food Service, Housekeeping, and Laundry departments. We welcomed the students to Marywood with mindful reflection on our Felician Core Values of Respect for Human Dignity, Compassion and Transformation. Both students and Marywood Staff report growing from such a joyful partnership. Marywood wishes the students a healthy, safe, and successful future! We look forward to welcoming new STP students during the 2018-2019 school year.”

We thank the Western Wayne Skill Center students and wish them the very best in all they do.

Marywood Nursing Care Center has a Five-Star Rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). This rating was developed by CMS to help consumers, their families and caregivers compare nursing care centers.

In addition, Marywood has once again been recognized as one of "America's Best Nursing Homes" by U.S. News and World Report. U.S. News evaluated more than 15,000 homes nationwide. This year, just over 2000 homes earned the designation of a U.S. News Best Nursing Home. The Best Nursing Home designation is given only to those homes that demonstrate appropriate use of key services and consistent performance in national quality measures.

Thank you for taking such wonderful care of my Mom. We feel blessed to have been a part of the Marywood family.
