Heartfelt Occasion

Hearts big and small were bursting with pride in the Holy Family Chapel on Friday, June 8, as the Marywood community celebrated graduation of the Kindergarten Readiness Class from St. Mary Child Care Center. The preschoolers received their diplomas, but they and their “Senior Buddies” also got a certificate of recognition for participating in the Intergenerational Preschool Program.

During the ceremony, graduates showed what they had learned by singing songs (in English and in Spanish) and by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance using American Sign Language. Together the children and Residents sang One Small Voice and The More We Get Together, and later students, singing You Are My Sunshine, presented their Senior Buddies with a sunflower and a framed picture of the graduating class. When the commencement ended, students, Family members and Residents enjoyed a luncheon reception in the Activities Room.

Each Monday since November, the children walked from St. Mary’s to Marywood where class was held in the Activities Room. Lessons included picking jobs for the day, reviewing the year, month, and days of the week, discussing the weather, recognizing shapes, sizes, letters, and numbers, story time, and daily lessons.

What a valuable endeavor this has been for students and Residents alike! As the children learn to practice the Felician Core Values of Compassion, Respect for Human Dignity, Transformation, Solidarity with the Poor and Justice and Peace, they also share their energy and enthusiasm with their Resident pals.

Many thanks to the teachers and staff of St. Mary Child Care Center, and congratulations to the students, who enter kindergarten eager to learn more, as well as the “Senior Buddy” Resident participants!

Marywood Nursing Care Center has a Five-Star Rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). This rating was developed by CMS to help consumers, their families and caregivers compare nursing care centers.

In addition, Marywood has once again been recognized as one of "America's Best Nursing Homes" by U.S. News and World Report. U.S. News evaluated more than 15,000 homes nationwide. This year, just over 2000 homes earned the designation of a U.S. News Best Nursing Home. The Best Nursing Home designation is given only to those homes that demonstrate appropriate use of key services and consistent performance in national quality measures.

Thank you for taking such wonderful care of my Mom. We feel blessed to have been a part of the Marywood family.
