Yuletide Party Yummy

A bitter wind howled the evening of Thursday, December 14, but Families braved the cold to be at the best holiday event of the season, the Marywood Christmas Party. As attendees streamed in, Santa and Mrs. Claus were already strolling the St. Francis Dining Room, shaking hands and visiting with friends young and young at heart.

Our long-time friend Jenni McCormick was there with an ensemble from her church, singing seasonal favorites accompanied by piano, flute, and handbells. Sixth grade students from Divine Child Elementary spread cheer from table to table, giving Christmas cards they had made by hand to our Residents.

Amid the music and happy chatter, partygoers tucked into a scrumptious spread from Food and Nutritional Services: roast turkey, cheese and crackers, meatballs, mini quiche, spanakopita, jumbo shrimp, and cut vegetables and fruit. Dessert lovers loaded up on mini creampuffs, cookies, and peanut butter chocolate brownies, washed down with coffee, eggnog, and Marywood's famous red punch. Needless to say, no one went hungry.

After eating, Families admired the beautifully decorated hallways and alcoves, or stopped at the gift shop where they made purchases, served by Grace, Blake, and Madison, the children of our own Tedra Kumru. Looking marvelous in their holiday finery, Families also got to pose with the Clauses, who graciously gave everyone time to take photos.

What a lovely evening it was to share together, making new memories while remembering Christmases of old. We are grateful to the many hands that worked so hard to make this party so pleasant.

Marywood Nursing Care Center has a Five-Star Rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). This rating was developed by CMS to help consumers, their families and caregivers compare nursing care centers.

In addition, Marywood has once again been recognized as one of "America's Best Nursing Homes" by U.S. News and World Report. U.S. News evaluated more than 15,000 homes nationwide. This year, just over 2000 homes earned the designation of a U.S. News Best Nursing Home. The Best Nursing Home designation is given only to those homes that demonstrate appropriate use of key services and consistent performance in national quality measures.

Thank you for taking such wonderful care of my Mom. We feel blessed to have been a part of the Marywood family.
